An emergency exit slide came off a Delta Air Lines Boeing 767 on Friday. A lawyer, whose firm is suing Boeing over the Alaska blowout, spotted it outside his home two days later. AdvertisementAn emergency slide that came off a Delta Boeing 767 was found by a lawyer whose firm is suing Boeing, the New York Post reported. The wild coincidence happened on Sunday, two days after the slide fell off the Boeing 767 operated by Delta Air Lines. However, it should be noted that since the Delta Boeing 767 was built in 1990, the incident points to a maintenance issue rather than the planemaker's fault.

The pilots of the London-bound American Airlines Boeing 777 took a wrong turn on a taxiway alongside two perpendicular runways. Instead, they crossed 4L just as a Delta Boeing 737 began its takeoff roll down the same runway. A controller warned the American crew about a “possible pilot deviation," and gave them a phone number to call, which the captain did. The cockpit voice recording from inside the American plane was taped over during the six-hour flight to London and lost forever. Investigators said they tried several times to interview the American pilots, but the pilots refused on advice of their union, which objected to the NTSB recording the interviews.

“The Learjet pilot read back the instructions clearly but began a takeoff roll instead,” the FAA said in a statement. The NTSB says neither airplane was damaged and nobody on board was hurt. The FedEx plane, meanwhile, climbed as its crew aborted their landing to help avoid a collision, the FAA said. Air traffic controllers had “noticed another aircraft crossing the runway in front of the departing jetliner,” the FAA said in a statement. Audio recordings detail swift action by an air traffic controller kept the airplanes from colliding as they drew closer.
A FedEx aircraft aborted its landing to avoid a Southwest Airlines jet on Saturday during heavy fog. Both were mistakenly cleared for the same runway at Austin Bergstrom International Airport. "The pilot of the FedEx airplane discontinued the landing and initiated a climb out," said the FAA. "Shortly before the FedEx aircraft was due to land, the controller cleared Southwest Flight 708 to depart from the same runway," the FAA said, per Reuters. Southwest Airlines, FedEx, and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Insider.
The two planes came close to colliding when the FedEx plane was forced to overfly the Southwest plane to avoid a crash, two sources briefed on the matter told Reuters. "Shortly before the FedEx aircraft was due to land, the controller cleared Southwest Flight 708 to depart from the same runway," the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said. The NTSB separately said it was investigating "a possible runway incursion and overflight involving airplanes from Southwest Airlines and FedEx." The Southwest plane had not yet departed when the FedEx plane was nearing the runway. The Cancun, Mexico-bound Southwest flight, a Boeing 737-700, safely departed and landed at 9:47 a.m.
A Delta jet was forced to abort a takeoff when an American Airlines plane passed in front of it. The FAA said the Delta jet halted its takeoff within 1,000 feet of the AA plane. Delta passenger Donall Brian Healy told Insider there were screams in the cabin. Healy said the pilot told passengers that another plane had passed in front of them, forcing him to abort the takeoff. ABC7 reported that the Delta jet was traveling at 115 miles an hour when it aborted its takeoff.

Delta Air Lines will offer travelers free Wi-Fi starting Feb. 1, after years of studying the possibility. Travelers will access the free internet service by logging in with their Delta SkyMiles frequent flyer account information, Bastian added. It's free on JetBlue , which has some corporate sponsorships for the service, and Hawaiian Airlines is planning to offer free internet with SpaceX's Starlink this year. American Airlines ' Wi-Fi service starts at $10 and varies depending on the route, though last April, the carrier and its provider Viasat, started trialing free Wi-Fi for some customers. Airline executives have been hesitant to offer free Wi-Fi service until it is more reliable.
